Earlier in the week, news came out that former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens bailed on his youth football camp in Pittsburgh just three days before the camp. Thankfully, Steelers wide receiver Pat Feiermuth stepped in at the last minute and save the day for all the camper. TruEdge, the company who puts on these camps all over the country released a statement about Pickens skipping out on the camp.
But on Friday, TruEdge walked their statement back and did a bit of damage control with a new statement that absolves Pickens of any real responsibility for missing the camp. Instead, they made it out to be a miscommunication and laid the blame back on themselves for how they characterized Pickens in their original release.
With TruEdge working with NFL players all over the country, I’m sure it was more important to keep Pickens happy in case he wants to show up at a camp in Dallas now that he’s a Cowboy. Given Pickens reputation, his absence likely had more to do with his lack of interest in returning to Pittsburgh than anything else.
