The Milwaukee Bucks have been active this offseason, especially when it comes to retaining key performers. Before the start of the NBA’s free agency, the team secured backup center Bobby Portis on a three-year, $44 million contract. Portis is one of the fan favorites in Milwaukee, and having him back on a team-friendly deal was a smart move.
On Monday, the Bucks also kept backup forward Taurean Prince. The 6-foot-6 forward signed a two-year, $7.1 million contract to return. Prince was one of the most productive role players last season.
Before the day was finished, Milwaukee retained another bench player for the 2025-26 season. According to ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania, free agent guard Gary Trent Jr. agreed to return to the Bucks on a two-year, $7.5 million contract.
Charania reported that Trent’s new deal has a player option in the second year.
“The deal brings Trent back to the team where he emerged as a key rotation player, averaging 11.1 points and 41.2% 3-point shooting, and allows him to re-enter the free agency market next summer when many more teams will have cap space,” the insider posted.

In the 2024-25 season, he played 74 games for the Bucks, averaging 11.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists and shooting 41.6% from deep. In the postseason, Trent played an important role as the team’s second-best scorer. He averaged 18.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.6 steals while shooting 50% from deep.
The 6-foot-5 guard stepped up while Damian Lillard recovered from dealing with blood clots at the start of the postseason. After Lillard went down with an Achilles tear injury, Trent remained a reliable player for the Bucks.
