Tight end Darren Waller is coming out of retirement to play for the Miami Dolphins, filling the team’s void at the position after Jonnu Smith was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.
The Dolphins are trading a 2026 sixth round pick to the New York Giants, who held Waller’s rights, for a conditional 2027 seventh-round pick, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Waller agreed to a one-year deal with the Dolphins worth up to $5 million, agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey told Schefter.
Waller, 32, announced his retirement last June, saying that a health scare he experienced in November of 2023 gave him clarity about his life.
