Jazz Chisholm Jr. Sends Mixed Message as Yankees Face Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Yankees have lost two straight games to the Toronto Blue Jays by a combined score of 17-9, but it’s not Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s fault. The infielder is 1-for-6 with a two-run homer, two runs scored, and two walks over the two contests.
Chisholm slashed .318/.378/.614 with seven homers and 19 RBI in June after slashing .151/.279/.312 with four homers and 11 RBI in April. The 27-year-old missed May with an oblique strain.
Chisholm is a natural second baseman, but the Yankees have often deployed him at third base since trading for him last summer, a position he had never previously played. The former Miami Marlin sounded off about the change on Tuesday, via The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner.
“Everybody knows I’m a second baseman. Of course, I want to play second base, but whatever it takes to help the team win,” he said. “If that’s what the team chooses, that’s what I gotta do. I don’t write the lineups. You feel me?”
“I’m playing every day, so it’s hard to be upset,” he continued. “Yes, I know I’m a second baseman. Yes, I know I’m better at second base, but at the end of the day, I still have to play third. I just have to deal with it.”
Jazz Chisholm Jr. told me that “everyone knows I’m a second baseman.”
Jazz said he exclusively played at second this offseason and was told that was where he’d be.
So why is he playing third base? More below ⬇️https://t.co/mcnQP95J6Z— Chris Kirschner (@ChrisKirschner) July 2, 2025
This came after Yankees manager Aaron Boone admitted that the team will “talk through” the possibility of switching Chisholm with second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who also plays third, via MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.
New York is now just one game ahead of Toronto and 1.5 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays atop the AL East.
