The CBF officially announced on the evening of this Friday (4th) that the Maracanã will indeed be the venue for Brazil vs. Chile on September 4th.
This decision meets the request made by coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The entity’s initial idea was to hold the game, valid for the 17th round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, at Beira-Rio as a tribute to the victims of the flood in April last year.
However, the Internacional stadium will host a Gilberto Gil concert on the 6th. The Mineirão was also considered, but it also has a concert scheduled close to the match date.
The last match of the National Team at the Maracanã was a 1-0 defeat to Argentina, still under the command of Fernando Diniz, in November 2023.
After hosting Chile, which no longer has a chance even for a playoff, the Brazilian National Team will visit Bolivia on the 9th – probably in El Alto with its 4,150 m altitude.
Bolivia is competing with Venezuela for the seventh place – which will secure a spot in the world playoff.
Already qualified for the Cup, Brazil is in third place with 25 points.

And after the Qualifiers?
According to ge, the CBF is planning two friendlies against Asian teams in October. An invitation from Japan has already been made. South Korea would be the other possibility.
In the November FIFA Date, Brazil is expected to have matches against African teams – both in Europe.
It will not be possible to face European teams, as they will be playing their Qualifier matches on those dates.
