Topline
Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., was removed from a press conference held by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in Los Angeles on Thursday, being quickly pushed about by security while saying he was trying to ask Noem questions, presumably about the immigration protests that have erupted in the city.
Key Facts
In a video published by Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin, Padilla was seen being removed from the press conference as he said, “I am Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary.”
Melugin said in a follow-up post that after he stopped recording the video, Padilla was taken to the ground by FBI agents and temporarily detained.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom called the incident “outrageous, dictatorial, and shameful,” adding “Trump and his shock troops are out of control.”
Forbes reached out to Padilla’s office for comment.
