Manolo Blahnik is taking a starring role at London’s luxury Burlington Arcade at the moment with the historic shopping space “transformed into a celebration of Marie Antoinette – introducing Le Palais du Burlington Arcade.”

The installation celebrates the launch of the Marie Antoinette by Manolo Blahnik Capsule Collection, “creating a unique and immersive experience that complements the accompanying collaboration with the V&A and evokes a sense of grandeur of the Palace of Versailles”.
The shoes and accessories brand is sponsoring the V&A’s landmark Marie Antoinette Style exhibition.
The aim has been for Le Palais du Burlington Arcade to bring “the splendour of Versailles to the ‘Jewel of Mayfair’ with glistening chandeliers, bespoke carpets and hand-drawn illustrations, creating a theatrical and immersive celebration of artistry, heritage and beauty”.

Designed by Manolo Blahnik himself, a dramatic 180-yard carpet unfurls across the full length of the arcade. Adorned with rosebud motifs and a square panel pattern inspired by the parquet flooring of Versailles, it’s layered with capsule sketches, “offering a rare glimpse into Blahnik’s design process”.
The 21 individually lit and programmed crystal chandeliers certainly make an impact and also illuminate 84 hand-rendered illustrations of five individual capsule shoe designs, presented in sculptural clusters.

While the label is nowadays closely associated with the centuries-old arcade, it’s only traded there for just under a decade. But Blahnik is intimately familiar with the space’s distinct architectural nuances and it said the installation “sweeps through the space with a sense of theatrical 18th-century grandeur, embellishing every corner with sumptuous drama”.
As for the capsule collection it’s a limited edition offer available exclusively at Manolo Blahnik’s Burlington Arcade Mayfair Townhouse and online.
The installation is open until early November.
