American brand Carhartt WIP has a new home in Lisbon. The brand opened its second store in the city on 17 October at Praça Luís de Camões, where it already has a retail location on Rua Áurea.

Designed by Salomée Faeh and the Milan-based studio of architect Andrea Caputo, the flagship store “establishes a dialogue between Portugal’s artisanal tradition and Carhartt WIP’s contemporary design language,” the brand explained in a statement, noting that typical elements of Carhartt WIP stores, such as concrete fixtures, steel piping and solid wood tables, “sit alongside multiple arrangements of handcrafted, hand-painted tiles, paying homage to the Portuguese art of azulejo tilework.”
To mark the opening of the new flagship store, Carhartt WIP released a limited-edition run of exclusive T-shirts, featuring graphics by Lisbon-born artist Ricardo Passaporte, available in-store on the opening night, October 17.
Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP) is a clothing brand that reinterprets Carhartt’s workwear designs within its own, more contemporary and urban universe. Founded in 1994 by Edwin Faeh, it currently operates more than 100 physical stores across the United States, Europe and Asia, and is also distributed through a selection of wholesale partners.
