Darius Slayton hilariously explains Jameis Winston’s personality

The New York Giants have been devoid of characters and flavor the past few seasons (Tommy DeVito and his agent notwithstanding), and now are playing catch-up.

This offseason, the addition of three new quarterbacks from three different backgrounds is adding a new vibe to the culture. The players who have been here for a while are beginning to latch onto the Giants’ newest signal callers.

Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart all have their own style. Darius Slayton, the elder statesman in the team’s wide receiver room, spoke about the shift in perspectives this spring.

“It is an interesting compilation of individuals, but Jameis and Russ are that veteran presence. Jameis is a wild card, though, just as a human being,” Slayton said. “So, having his personality around is amazing, but also, they both have great presence and leadership about them.

“You see the age is probably a little rude. The seasoning in both of them, the veteran leadership they both have. And also, you have Dart kind of the young kid, he’s kind of learning find his way, but he has two good mentors to learn from.”

Winston, especially, has his quirks as Slayton tried to explain to the media this week at the Giants’ organized team activities (OTAs).

“It’s so hard to describe,” Slayton said about Winston. “It’s just how I’m talking right now. He’d be talking just like this and it’s just the random thoughts that come to his head and they just come out and it’s like we were talking about a slant, how did we get to Kentucky Fried Chicken?

“Just hard lefts. I can’t think of an exact example, but that’s how best I could describe. It’s just random hard lefts, but then he comes right back on topics. It’s like, am I tripping or are you tripping? But he’s a really fun guy to be around.”

Winston is a character and his personality is infectious.
