Harvey Nichols names McPhail new beauty director

Harvey Nichols beauty director Clare Horner has exited the luxury fashion and beauty-focused department store after a four-and-a-half-year tenure with Lucy McPhail replacing her.

McPhail joined this month as executive buying and merchandising director and steps into her new role with immediate effect. She’s held senior positions at Threads Styling, Liberty, and Harrods and has been a strategic consultant to thriving beauty business Space NK for two years.

Harvey Nichols CEO Julia Goddard hailed her “extensive industry expertise to Harvey Nichols and said she’s “exceptionally well placed to lead the evolution of our beauty division” in line with the retailer’s “broader transformation strategy and renewed focus on our core fashion and beauty edit”.

She also extended “our sincere thanks to Clare for her dedication and contribution to the business, and [we] wish her every success in the future”.

It’s unclear what Horner, a 12-year veteran of fragrance and beauty distributor Kenneth Green Associates, will be doing next.

She said on LinkedIn: “After an incredible 4.5 years with Harvey Nichols, the time has come to move on. It’s hard to put into words the pride, passion and joy I’ve felt leading the beauty category within such an iconic business.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of the most inspiring brands and partners in the industry, building relationships rooted in collaboration, creativity and shared success.

“To my brilliant colleagues, thank you for the energy, drive and support. I leave with huge respect for what we’ve achieved together and a sadness to go, but I know it’s the right time to take on a new opportunity.”
