Metrocentre signs Urban Outfitters for a summer opening

Urban Outfitters’ first new UK store of 2025 is about to land in the North East at the Metrocentre in Gateshead.

Becoming the major US brand’s second location in the region, it’s arriving at Metrocentre’s upper Red Mall this summer, with the flagship spanning 8,000 sq ft and sitting adjacent to Zara, H&M, and New Look.

The retailer will stock a range of menswear and womenswear, alongside accessories, and homewares that include a host of third-party brands such as Levi’s, Motel, Damson Madder, Dickies, and Carhartt WIP.

Ben Cox, director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, the asset managers of Metrocentre, said: The demand for trend-setting brands such as Urban Outfitters continues to grow, and it’s a strong message to play host to its first UK store opening of the year.”

The announcement follows the news that Inditex-owned fashion chain Stradivarius has also signed for a space within Metrocentre’s lower Red Mall, marking the brand’s first location in the North East with a 10,000 sq ft flagship space.

The centre’s operator also said this arrival “further underscores the destination’s regional dominance in attracting the latest and most sought-after fashion brands”.
